Campaigning for a Drug Free India

Monday, February 11, 2019

It seems that Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and a couple of famous colleagues like Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, singer Sonu Nigam, TV personality Kapil Sharma etc have joined hands with spiritual personality Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to spearhead a campaign against drugs. Called Drug Free India, the campaign is taglined ‘Na karoonga, na karne doonga (I will not indulge, nor allow you to indulge)’ and is aimed at the student body in the country, to begin with. According to Sanjay Dutt, who fell prey to drugs in his youth, students have young and impressionable minds and can easily get sucked into drug abuse. “We have to firmly tell youngsters that drug abuse is not cool. That’s why we want to reach out to the youth of this country and spread the word through (educational) campuses,” said Sanjay to the media. The campaign will kick off at campuses in Chandigarh on 18 February followed by another day-long campaign in Hisar on 19 February with Sanjay, Parineeti, Sonakshi, Sonu, Kapil and others appearing in person to get the message across to thousands of youth. The events is scheduled to be watched via live broadcast by hundreds of thousands of students across the country and the concerned celebrities will follow it up with a dedicated road show. Having Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on board the campaign will help give it a wider dimension since few have an area of influence as wide at the grassroots level, as the spiritual leader does. As Sri Sri Ravi Shankar posted on his Twitter handle on Sunday: “Our youth have such promising potential to blossom in life, but drugs rob not just the individual but their family, society and nation of that promise. We must do everything in our capacity to stop the drug menace.”
