Coming Up Trumps

Wednesday, January 03, 2018

Finally, Donald Trump spoken out loud and clear against Pakistan’s pernicious ways. He truly started the New Year with a bang! His first tweet of 2018 tore into Pakistan with the words: “The US has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”

This bold and brazen whiplash was widely appreciated and the tweet got over 1,00,000 likes in a matter of a couple of hours. Clearly, the US President has had it with Pakistan’s pampering of terrorists and what more people are wondering is what could have prompted the sudden realisation? Whatever it may be, Pakistan will now be on guard regarding consistent support to terrorists, something that has long vexed India. Despite repeated protests from India, Pakistan has done little to curb terrorism or bring known terrorists to book.

The Trump administration is also withholding $255 million in aid to Pakistan, unless Pakistan shows that it is serious about stamping out terrorism and terrorists. Finally, even Trump’s detractors will agree that his tough stance with Pakistan has made him come up trumps!
