Cyrus Broacha is the funniest!

Monday, March 05, 2018

The inimitable and irrepressibly funny Cyrus Broacha returns (along with co-star Kunal Vijaykar) with the play ‘How I Met Your Father’ this March at the Sophia Bhabha auditorium. This rip-roaring revue from Raell Padamsee’s Ace Productions combines song, dance, audience interactions as well as outright comedy to create an evening of laughter for all in the vicinity. Says Cyrus: “We decided on the revue format because performing stand-up comedy for an entire evening gets totally boring, as far as I’m concerned. Now that India has its stand-up comedians in place, some ridiculously short, we decided to put together a collection of pieces that would allow us to showcase our talents and keep the audience diverted as well”.

We asked Cyrus, who belongs to the original MTV generation in aamchi Mumbai, what the rewards of making people laugh could possibly be. He replies tongue-firmly-in-cheek: “This generation is quite polite — they sometimes give us Rs. 10-15 when they meet us! Also, often people do recognise me in hotel lobbies and come up to chat. The sad thing is that now they’re saying ‘My father really likes you a lot’. I’m really worried about that. I’m dreading the time they will say, ‘My grandfather really likes you a lot’!” Touché!
