FOR 16 Sundays this man angered us, nudged at our collective conscience and smacked the truth in our faces. Lifting the veil of Indian hypocrisy and revealing the pervading injustice in our social system, ‘Idiot’ Aamir Khan, armed with well-researched facts showed the ugly side of society and the rampant exploitation of the common Indian. Whether it was the unethical methods of medical practitioners who preyed upon the sick and feeble or sexual abuse of children, female foeticide or the rampant exploitation of natural resources including sand and water, and even the unfortunate plight of the poor and downtrodden; he laid the facts on the table or rather in the television studio.
Now even though the first season of the social issue program ‘Satyamev Jayate’ has ended, a purpose has been served. Apart from boosting Star TV’s TRPs, the program has created an uproar and has forced the government into action on many of the issues raised. Encore Aamir, encore Satyamev Jayate!
