When we are humiliated, we are said to be “eating crow”. What do crows eat when they are embarrassed? Nothing special of course, because who ever saw an embarrassed crow? The other day, however, at the Horniman Circle garden early in the evening, we witnessed a murder of crows that looked quite peaceable, hopping around the central fountain and pecking at something on the ground. We expected channa or rice grains, but of course, these are Mumbai crows, and so they were eating – uncooked, broken Maggi noodles! Nor were they a whit worried when we stepped almost up to them to take our picture.
