The National Theatre Live version, that is! And if you missed it last year, make sure you don’t repeat that particular mistake, come June 11 to 14!
Directed by Danny Boyd of Slumdog Millionaire fame, last year’s first showing had Anil Kapoor in the audience as well. For those among us who are never likely to see a performance of the National Theatre, this is the next best thing – or even better, as some people thing.
For one, it brings the theatre experience alive most vividly, thanks to the shooting by eight cameras of the stage performance. For another, it gives the audience the benefit of a multi-dimensional viewing experience as we seem to travel around the stage itself. And all this without taking a whit from the actual richness of the theatre performance itself.
There is also a Hindi play that we have no intention of missing, on June 9 and 10 at the Godrej Dance Theatre. It promises to be hilarious and will strike a chord with everyone familiar with the protocols of corruption.
The premise is – what would happen if tenders were called by Emperor Shah Jahan for the construction of the Taj Mahal. Would it ever be built? It’s got Rajesh Bedi in it, playing was seems to be the contractor, so you can just imagine the outcome.
Let’s hope, though, that the rain gods hold off till after the second day!
