eBay India, the eCommerce marketplace, has announced the eBay Swimwear Barometer, which gauges swimwear popularity basis on the number of products available for sale on its website. And it says that among its clutch of 12 products listed on its website, the bikini leads, followed by bikini bottoms and one piece swimwear. Frankly, thinking of Mumbai’s beaches and the thousands of sari and salwar-clad women sticking their toes in the water, the mind boggles. But who are we to argue with a barometer!
Apparently, more bikini bottoms are being sold than tops, almost three times as many in fact. The buyers are probably wearing them with cover-ups, tankini tops etc, or else they are wearing them under something called swimdress and swimskirt, which puts us in mind of the pictures of Brighton beach in the early 1900s, when women went to swim covered from head to tow in swimming dresses made of serge, and got into the sea directly from bathing machines anchored inside the water.
Anyway, Indian women are also buying monokini, board shorts and boy shorts. Right! Now all we need is a picture.
