AND one more from The Economist (sorry!). It has a piece on our own Vasant Dhoble, that if Bollywood had to dream up a killjoy cop, it would be he.
We like their physical description of him, something none of the Indian media have done with any success, perhaps because they are too close to the issue and busy taking sides. But here is the description:
“A stocky figure in his 50s sporting a moustache, Mr. Dhoble has gained cartoon-villain status among hip Mumbaikars. An anti-Dhoble Facebook group has attracted over 20,000 members. Urbane newspapers witheringly describe him as a teetotal vegetarian.”
Almost, it makes us sound as if we are against him partly because he is a teetotal vegetarian, which hip Mumbaikars presumably are not. But the truth it, many Mumbaikars are against him because his actions are decidedly non-vegetarian in their intensity, and as for him being teetotal, it would appear that Mr. Dhoble is drunk on power, a brew we know as being far more heady than mere alcohol.
