TRUST a poet to put it – poetically! Padma Bhushan awardee lyricist Gulzar was asked to leave the election booth as his name was not in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election lists. This was not first time, in the last General Assembly election too, he said, his name was not in the list and he was asked to go to home. But in the evening, thanks to an alert official, his name was found in another book and he was able to cast his vote.
No such luck this time. And we heard the poet say sadly to a friend about not getting the chance to vote, “Is baar meri ungali suhagan na ho pai!”
Let’s hope we got that right. Anyway, it sounded much better when he said it!
