Not done or dusted!

Friday, February 02, 2018

Having won his third grand-slam in a year, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is proving his critics wrong as he clinched the Australian Open. Fedex lifted the iconic trophy at the Rod Laver arena in Melbourne, winning an impressive 20th Grand Slam title after seeing off Croatian nemesis Marin Cilic in a five setter match, winning 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. This is his sixth Australian Open title for the current World No.2.

Federer, with his attacking style, class and finesse has been able to largely remain on top and thwart threats from the new players entering the world tennis circuit. Many entered and exited equally fast as the maestro remained unchallenged. If the adage 'old is gold' something to go by, then Federer is anything but old, done or dusted. The thing that stands out the most for the ace athlete, aged 36, is that he is twinkling in the twilight of his career and is making sure he will eventually bow out of the game on a high. Well, we must say he is like wine, getting only better with age. All eyes will be on him when he arrives in England to play at Wimbeldon, his favourite grand slam in June. There too he holds a record for winning maximu singles titles - 8. Roger that folks?
