Speaker Jamie Anderson is on a different track

Friday, September 07, 2018

We were introduced to Australian national and TED talk speaker Jamie Anderson, who was in the city recently. Jamie gave up a lucrative career as a professor of business studies at a prominent British university which he had worked 20 years towards achieving in order to pursue his passion – cycling. It may sound like a crazy thing to do but, Jamie says that after a few difficult years initially, he’s happier than he’s ever been before. Moreover, after his TED talk was posted on YouTube, Jamie’s been receiving invitations from all across the world to be keynote speaker for companies wishing to motivate their employees into finding their true purpose. Says Jamie: “I often go up to people and telling them to resign their job in a day and pursue what they’re most curious about -- even if they have to take a salary cut. It may be an offbeat thing to do but it’s who I am. To give you an example, for someone who’s a financier and is really motivated by people, I’d advise them to take a sideways step into Human Resources (HR).” Jamie is a motivational speaker and also spends a portion of his time talking one-on-one with capable individuals who’re looking for a career shift and don’t know how to go about it. As he feels, it’s a rewarding thing to do, because with sufficiently motivated individuals this can have a “multiplier effect” and bring about a paradigm shift in society (in due course). This husband and father of three was in Mumbai to speak with employees of YES bank and the Raymond Group and seemed to be enjoying himself. As he says of his mission: “Inspiring people along an alternative route is great because people who’re happy and motivated are good for their employers.” We agree.
