Woman Power for Nisha Jamvwal

Monday, February 05, 2018

One of the most visually luminous people in the city, Nisha Jamvwal, spoke on the empowerment of women at a public discussion in the city on Saturday. From what we understand, Jamvwal has had somewhat of a privileged childhood, where she was dearly loved by her parents. “My father would take me along for his company boardroom meetings at the age of 10. It was his way of telling me that women are in no way inferior to men,” says Nisha, who spoke at the function along with the CM’s wife Amruta Fadnavis and lawyer and social activist Abha Singh among others. Talking to us, Jamvwal said that what is most required right now is for women to get into the job economy and contribute value to society within the mainstream. “It has been found that, in the villages of India, women sarpanches are often more accomplished than their male counterparts. Also, the government is finding that women farmers are more responsible with money loans – handling them more responsibly, deploying them more effectively and returning them more quickly than the agriculturists who are men,” she says. The influencer was all praise for PM Modi who recently themed one of his radio talk shows on the subject of woman power.  “The fact that Modi has handed the vital defence portfolio to a woman sends a strong and powerful message for the cause of women,” she mentions. However, Jamvwal does feel that in a social context, support for the empowerment of women is somewhat scanty, far from the mass movement she would like it to be. “We Indians need to focus not just on the bhavishya (future) of the male child, but on the  bhavishya of the female child in our families, as well,” she bemoans.
