Centre's policy in Kashmir

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

HEADS of political parties and other leaders of Kashmir are apparently in touch  — consulting one another about their future course of action. Farooq Abdullah has among others stated that he will not take part in local body elections. Whenever Abdullah talks politics these days, he talks aggressively. Apparently former chief minister Mufti also said the same. It looks like almost all the parties will not take part in the local body elections. Such joint action will  make things difficult for India. Sooner or later, this is going to happen. It is some months now since the Centre has taken over completely in Kashmir and made some changes. All the parties have been asking that Article 35 should not be withdrawn. Sooner or later this article which dilutes India's hold on Kashmir must go. Kashmir is a part of India and it is only Pakistani terrorists who deny this. Prime Minister Imran Khan has not changed the Pakistani policy much. He has failed to get India to have a dialogue. The dialogue he wants will have only one subject - Kashmir. India has taken a tough stand. One of the consequences of this is increasing action of Pakistan in Kashmir. What help China can give to Pakistan is only limited. It does not want to lose its big trade with the USA. The USA has given China to understand it will not approve of any action against India. Finally, a bold decision has to be taken once for all. The Centre must be tough in th case of anti-India elements in Kashmir. Some of them are secretly in league with Pakistan. And they are involved in continuing attacks against India in Kashmir. It is not difficult to see who is causing unrest in Kashmir. Either they should be jailed or sent out. Before doing this they should be given a chance to be Kashmiri citizens of India.
