Democracy in India

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

IT is claimed that democracy is working in India at all levels. People have the total right of freedom of expression. Is this true? Mamata Bannerjee is thought of as one of our leaders who sticks to democracy. And yet, we see that at the panchayat level, there is total absence of democracy. How can this be explained. And then in UP jails, torture is used on prisoners. Can this be called democracy? How can Yogi allow this. He dresses in coloured clothes that suggest spirituality. Does spirituality permit torture? In governance of the states, democratic procedures are sometimes quite conspicuous by its absence. Quite often, it is a one-man dictatorial show. Complaints in such cases are ignored. One-man show happens and somehow nothing can be done about it. Actually, lakhs are involved in undemocratic situations. Those who talk about democracy themselves apply undemocratic methods. The knowing ones take advantage of the ignorance of the masses and establish the existence of democracy where there is none. The truth is those who flaunt democracy are only cheating. People, mostly belonging to the lower classes are being cheated.

India is one of those countries which claim to be democratic. Only a few members of the upper classes and the ruling class have a chance to be democratic. Those who are 'democratic' get a chance to exploit the people. Those who exploit make sure that all their activities are done under the cover of democracy.
