Mamata may be thrown out?

Friday, September 07, 2018

Mamata Bannerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, appears to be more interested in the Lok Sabha elections of next year than the happenings in her own state now. She is out of the state most of the time and is involved in joint operations with opposition parties. Somehow, she wants to win next year polls at any cost. She is out of her state most of the time while her attention as chief minister is needed in her own state, but that is not happening.

As many as three bridges collapsed in the course of a few hours in her state, but she does not appear to be bothered. Quite a few people have died in the collapses and a large number of people have been injured. After the first bridge collapsed she should have begun to construct another. There does not seem to have been any decision in this regard. It looks like more bridges in Bengal are likely to collapse. Bridges situation in the cities pose a big danger. They were constructed many years ago and there does not seem to have been any checking.

After the first bridge collapsed in Kolkatta, all the bridges in the state should have been examined. After the serious accidents in which many people have been killed, this was the least the government should have done. It will not be a surprise if on checking, we find deteriorated condition of bridges. Timely action will stop bridge collapses and deaths.

Mamata Bannerjee is good at politics but does not seem to be so in ruling the state. Political parties have already started programmes to dislodge Mamata in West Bengal. BJP President Amit Shah swears he will throw out Mamata from Bengal. He has already undertaken a big planto do this. It is the same aim of the Congress party in the state. It is a fact Mamata Bannerjee was very popular in the state but her popularity is slowly going away. People are moving away from her and unless she moves away from extraneous political interests, she is likely to be thrown out.
