Every morning, people living in the colony I stay in, and who peep out of their windows, early in the morning, wonder why I go and stare into a black hole in the ground. That black hole in the ground is no more just a black hole, but has in the past few days been carved into a ring well.
“Water at twenty feet?” asked an engineer, “I have never seen this in the city and I should know, as I work for the municipality!”
“Let us try,” I said, “We cannot drill a borewell, because there is a water pipe hundreds of feet under our colony, so let us try a ring well!”
I knew that if water was not struck, I would be answerable to the money spent, but in my mind, there was a picture and the picture was of an old, angry man striking a rock and water gushing out. Many decades ago as a four year old, bored, sitting in church I would open the family Bible my parents carried to church. What fascinated me were the pictures, and one picture in particular was that of Moses striking a black rock and water gushing out, precious water which was needed to quench the thirst of a people following him to their promised land.
“Do the same for me Lord!” I had prayed, “Let that machine hit a rock and sweet water flow out!”
But as the machines pounded day after day, into rock that was not giving in, the contractor gave up hope, and even left with his men one day, saying, “Black rock sir, no water!”
I peered into the hole the next day, and saw the sliver of water, coming down from same black rock, forming a small pool. “Water,” I cried out, “Lord you have given us water!”

I stare into the well, and know a God above answers prayer, that He is not just the God of an old picture in an ancient book, of an old man striking black rock and getting water, but that he answers prayers, even to those who pray to Him, today..!
