THE United States has swiftly moved an aircraft carrier to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, following the display on television of the nuclear progress made by Iran.
The US and its allies will be making a mistake if they decide to go to war with Iran, and destroy its nuclear installations. War with a country which has nuclear bombs, will be a futile exercise as there cannot be win or defeat. Though Iran is saying that it has no nuclear bombs, chances are it does have some.
In the past, it was easy for the US to attack Iraq and win a war there. The situation is quite different in neighbouring Iran which has nuclear weapons. Iran may not be able to fire nuclear missiles at the US, but it certainly can attack Israel. Just one nuclear bomb is enough to kill and injure lakhs of people in Israel. There can be no war between Israel and Iran which has made great progress in nuclear facilities. Iran now has reactors and other installations in more than three or more places in the country.
Israel has threatened more than once it will destroy nuclear installations in Iran. If it carries out its threat, it will be facing disastrous consequences. The western powers and Israel have to learn to let Iran exist. As Iran too will be dead scared to attack its hostile neighbours.
There is no alternative to peace in West Asia. When quite a few nations of the world have the capacity to make nuclear missiles or are buying bombs from friendly countries, it would be unrealistic and unfair to expect Iran not to have any kind of nuclear facilities.
