Make in India will create 10 crore new jobs by 2020

Wednesday, December 27, 2017

In the last couple of years Government through its various initiatives such as Make in India, Start up India is looking at increasing the investment opportunities in the country. Lending its support to the cause, Konnect Worldwide Business Media also organized an event smarttech Manufacturing and Electronics India Congress 2017 in New Delhi which was a grand success.

Indian government has a target to make our country Net Zero Imports by 2020 and is implementing several initiatives to promote electronics manufacturing in India. This event brought all the stakeholders in the Manufacturing and Electronics ecosystem to discuss on the challenges and opportunities that will enable the country to achieve this target.

Anil Srivastava, Director General-DMEO & Adviser, Niti Aayog, GOI “We are in the midst of fourth technological revolution where there is lot of integration of technology that is taking place. With Make in India, we are targeting on generating 10 core new jobs by 2020.”

Speaking about the challenges and opportunities, Mr. Pankaj Mohindroo, National President, Indian Cellular Association said, “In our champion category mobile phones India contributes about 3.9 per cent of the value of the world and about 13.8 per cent in terms of volume of the world. Due to the volumes, we get a sense that we are a big market but that is not the case so.”

However, not all is lost, as Mohindroo further added, “We will be a significant value market and become worth $70-80 billion in the coming 5-7 years.” He even urged for a complete and dedicated focus to be diverted to exports as in his opinion Indian made products have a sizeable footprint.

As a result of the Government efforts, in the last two years 107 new manufacturing units have been established and plenty more are in the offering.  During the course of the conference, the panelist lauded the government for laying the regulation groundwork and providing necessary support from time to time. The need of the hour however is that India goes beyond assembly units and get into component manufacturing.

Mr. Kuldeep Malik, Country Head Corporate Sales International, MediaTek said, “We believe Conclaves such as smarttech India Congress offers a great platform for players across the smart technology domain in India to exchange ideas and work together towards a better, mutually beneficial ecosystem. In terms of manufacturing, we keep comparing how India fares against China, but in reality we can have a better ecosystem, given the kind of resources we have. In order to have more inclusive role, MediaTek is brining in programs that are in sync with Government of India’s initiative such as Make in India and Skill India – ‘the smartphone design training programme’ in collaboration with MeitY is an apt example. The programme, being conducted for the second year running, brings MediaTek closer to Indian companies to create new, India designed products and aims to provide a greater depth of specialization and customization to prepare India’s next gen design engineers. ”

Aman Khanna, Founder, and Director, Konnect Worldwide Business Media commenting on the success of smarttech Manufacturing and Electronics India Congress 2017, “ In India, we are currently at the next growth curve and we expect initiatives like make In India, start up India will help our economy to grow multiple folds in the times to come.”.

This year’s event was a great success and included keynote speeches by CXOs of leading market players. The format of the event allowed attendees to talk to the leaders on 1-to-1 basis and share their expectations and challenges that they are facing.
