Alisha Mashruwala is a Partner at OnCourse and a Harvard graduate, and is also a Psychology major with a minor in Economics

I am interested in studying MS Innovation and Entrepreneurship in UK after completing my BA Economics from Christ University, Bangalore. Do I need a work experience for applying? Also will I need to submit a GMAT/GRE score?
—Mauna Deshmukh

Most MS Management programs in UK do not require a work experience or a GMAT/GRE score. However at universities like LSE (London School of Economics) a work experience from 3 months to 5 years is an advantage and all non-UK graduates must submit a GRE/GMAT score. However, please note that GMAT is highly recommended for candidates from less quantitative degree backgrounds.

I have completed my B.A Geography from Symbiosis International University. However, I like Landscaping and have been working as a free-lance Landscape designer since 2 years. I would like to study Landscaping formally in Toronto. Can you recommend a suitable program for which I am eligible in a college near Toronto?
—Roma Pereira

The University of Toronto offers a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree. The MLA is a three-year professional program intended for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree (in any discipline—BA, BSc, BFA, BCom) with high academic standing. Preference is given to individuals who have completed a balanced undergraduate education that includes study in the arts, sciences, and humanities. The following specific courses at the undergraduate level are highly recommended: biology/ecology, geography, English, and history. Preparation in the visual arts, such as drawing, sculpture, graphics, photography, film, or new media, as well as in computing and advanced writing is recommended.

I am planning to apply to the UK for BSc. Biology. Which English test must I take for my English Proficiency proof?
—Charan Singh

As an International student applying to the UK, you require English proficiency for procuring a student visa. The English proficiency test required by the UK should be the approved Secure English Language Tests (SELTS). The most preferred SELTs test in India is the IELTS – Academic Test. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is easily available at most centres in India.  It is jointly managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt. Ltd. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. All candidates must complete four Modules – Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11-14 minutes). The result is in the form of the Band Scale which ranges from 0 (Did not attempt the test) to 9(Expert User). The score requirement varies according to the course and college.
