Niket Sarvaiya, Co-Founder & COO, Picostone

Niket Sarvaiya is the Co-Founder and COO of Picostone. 25 year old Niket is a Computer Science Engineer from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Tech. He loves designing, strategizing and organizing things, since childhood and has always been excited to do things differently and come up with solutions that are out of the box.

In conversation with Dominic Rebello, Nikets, says, “We want every home to be automated, and that too without making it a big deal for the users to get it done in the first place. We’ve designed and engineered our entire hardware and software stack, with our users at the center of the processes. This helps us keep our costs low, while driving us to keep our products simple and effective.”

What is the idea behind Picostone?
Picostone, was created out of our need and vigor to solve problems and make lives simple and effortless. By the year 2020, the number of connected smart devices that will be interacting with our lives is going to be massive. Being a part of the evolution at its origin and being able to contribute to shaping it is what drives us to innovate and do what we do best!

The idea was seeded when we felt that the switch boards were generally far and sometimes it became inconvenient to get up from the middle of an activity / task to perform a small act of switching a button or going through the gruesome activity of finding the remote. Our phones are almost like our extended arms. So we thought why not digitize control of the switches and the remotes and all other electrical appliances and get them on our phone. The tech already existed, but it came with its own barriers in terms of technology and at the affordability front. This is exactly what we have tried to overcome at Picostone.

Virang is someone who is fascinated by the why’s and how’s and the first prototype was built by him in Jan 2016. The initial hardware and communication layer was set-up by him. I joined in May 2016, my forte and experience being designing and aesthetics, I started off with working more on the looks of the product, packaging and the entire user experience. Ours is an ideal case where technology meets design.

How are you different from others?
There are many players out there in the space, and we identified the gap that would differentiate us from our competitors:
a. User friendly design and features.
b. Easy installation process -  We can upgrade your room to a smart room in just a mere 15 minutes
c. The product is sweetly priced and affordable - The entire cost of automating with Picostone is approximately just ONE PERCENT of a general renovation budget.
d.  Retrofittable and expandable solutions - Our solutions are modular,i.e., you can install only one device and upgrade anytime later. Our solutions fit into your existing home without the need to rewire or break things.
e. The best thing is that the entire product (Hardware and Software) is designed, developed and engineered by us here in India.
Any expansion plans?

We deliver and install products across the country, and with ease.

With only one product commercially released and with an entire range of products coming up, we aim at reaching every household in the country.

We have an established channel and promoters for reaching out to our audiences across 18 cities right now and are growing week on week on our network right now.
Who would primarily be your target audience?
Anyone and everyone who has a wifi router and an internet connection at home, and wants to Live Effortlessly.
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
After going commercially live in June 2107, we have managed to touch 1500 homes in just 2 quarters, experiencing at an exponential growth month on month, and that too with only one product. With the strong product line in the pipeline, our artificially intelligent software platform - the Butler, and a promise for the best automation experience out there, we aim at becoming the go to product for home automation.
