Nrityasudha Fine Arts presented the debut Bharata Natyam performance by Anaka Kaundinya at the Manik Sabhagriha auditorium in Bandra. A disciple of Guru Lata Raman of Nrityasudha Fine Arts, Anaka’s performance was noteworthy more for the expressions rather than the pure dance aspect of Bharata Natyam.
After the traditional invocatory numbers, the dancer proceeded to perform the Alarippu that introduced the characteristic movements of the Bharata Natyam dance style. The Kamas Svarajati was a musical treat being a fine combination of both music and melody, which was well sung by the mentor Guru Lata Raman. After the elaborate Anandabhairavi Varnam that revealed Anaka's command over nritte, nritye and natya, the dancer performed an exclusive number ‘Shivashtakam’ that portrayed the glory and magnificence of Lord Shiva. Besides the padam, the item that was noteworthy for its expressional quality was the number ‘Teeradavilayattu Pillai’ that highlights the pranks of little Krishna and the constant complaints that mother Yasoda has to face. Anaka is blessed with large expressive eyes and has a natural flair for expressions; she can really do wonders, as far as ‘abhinaya’ is concerned.
The programme concluded with the Behag Thillana. Anaka recieved fine orchestral support from Guru Lata Raman for vocal and nattuvangam assisted by Prachi Saathi, mridangam by Satish Krishnamurthym, Violin by Balasubramaniam, Flute by Kumar krishnan, Ghatam and Kanjira by Sujesh Menon.
