Rukmini to perform at NCPA
Rukmini Vijayakumar was initiated into dance with the study of Bharatanatyam and ballet at a very young age. She began learning Bharatanatyam under Padmini Rao in the Tanjore tradition of Bharatanatyam. She later continued under Narmada, a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award. She has performed widely across India in prestigious venues such as Khajuraho, Ujjain and Chidambaram. She has also studied and practised the Karanas under the guidance of Guru Sundari Santhanam. Currently, she is pursuing a professional dancer’s MFA programme in Bharatanatyam at the Shastra University, Chennai, under Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Her extensive knowledge in Human anatomy and dance pedagogy is incorporated in her teaching curriculum at her dance institute Raadha Kalpa. Rukmini presents Shankara Madhava, a collection of choreographed pieces that describe the various ways in which we perceive Shiva, the lord of dance; and Krishna, the cowherd god. Musical tribute to Jagjit Singh
It was an exciting programme for the fans of Jagjit Singh, as some of the most popular gazals of the great singer like ‘Kagaz ki Kashti’, ‘Hoshwalo Ko Khabar’ and several other numbers were rendered at the programme ‘Aap Ki Farmaish’ by the popular singer Pandit Triloki Prasad, female singer Baghi Datta and the young singer Kartik Prasad. It was quite a thrill for the audience as most of their favourite numbers were rendered as per their request in the programme organised by Shika Events at Rangsharada uaidotirum in Bandra, last Saturday evening. Pandit Triloki Prasad belongs to a traiditional family of musicians from Jaipur, his father Pandit Govardhan Prasad was known as the king of 'dadra' and 'thumri' and his uncle Pandit Hanuman Prasad composed dances for V Shantaram. The programme continued for more than two hours and it was quite obvious that although the late singer is no more, his contribution to the world of music will always be remembered for ever.
