Theatre Director Salim Arif’s Essay Communications will hold a week long festival at Prithvi from July 15 to 20. The festival will include shows of Gandhari (Directed by Arvind Gaur), Hum Safar, Manto Mantra, Kharaashein (which completes its tenth year on July 18, 2012), Sunte Ho , on July 19 and Arre O Henry on July 20. As part of its 10-year celebrations, Essay Communications has invited Aishvarya Nidhi from Australia with her monologue Gandhari on July 15 at 11 am to inaugurate this edition of the festival. Javed Siddiqi’s Hum-Suffer, with Harsh Chhaya and Lubna Salim.
Shanmukhananda’s Diamond Jubilee!
One of the largest capacity halls in Asia, Shri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha in Mumbai entered it’s diamond jubilee year. During one of his visits to then Bombay, late prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, appealed to the citizens of Mumbai to construct a larger hall to promote the cultural activities in this part of the country. Several noted musicians like Zubin Meha, German Opera Ballet ,the French ballet dance, Film awards , performances by Indian musicians M.S.Subbulakshmi, Lata Mangeshkar, Pandit Ravi Shankar ,Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Dancers Vyajantimala and Hema Malini performed in this auditorium at various intervals..During the diamond jubilee year, the Sabha has planned nearly 60 programmes including performance of 60 Nadaswarams on July 14 and 60 violins on July 15 on the dais besides felicitation of seven unknown personalities on August 17 for their yeoman service by the former president Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

Anjali Bharata Natyam Institute presents the Bharata Natyam arangetram of Kum Shirley, disiciple of Lata Surendra, on Saturday 14th July at ISKCON Auditorium, Juhu 6.45pm.
Children’s theatre celebrations
The children’s theatre, namely Mr. Bin, Chota Bheem and Cartoon Mulanchi Shala under the aegis of Siddhant Productions and Mahakali Chitra will celebrate their prolific run at the Yashwant Natyamandir at Matunga on July 13 at 4 pm. Dinu Pednekar is the organiser while Neelam Shirke, Chinmay Mandlekar, Bhushan Kadu, Sarika Nawathe, Janardan Parab have appreciated these children’s endeavor.
