Kasturi Gadge advises you to a keep a jar of the sweet stuff handy because of its hidden benefits
1 Anti-dandruff shampoo
This should be your first weapon. Shampooing is a great way to tackle dandruff and you should make sure that the shampoo you’re using includes zinc pyrithione, which can kill fungal infections.
2 Soak up the sun
We’re not encouraging you to stand out in the sun till sunset, but moderate exposure to the sun has an anti-inflammatory effect, making your scalp less sensitive and flaky.
3 Loco for coconuts
Coconut oil can help reduce dandruff, especially if you are a victim to the big flakes. Wash your hair, but don’t condition and once your hair is dry, massage coconut oil into your scalp. Wash after half an hour. If you do this two to three times a week, your dandruff should reduce.
4 Cut out products
If you’re really laying on the gel, mousse and hairspray then you’ll be in for a snow storm. Too many products can lead to accumulation of oil on the hair and scalp which can aggravate dandruff.
5 Baby oil
Warm up a little baby oil, apply it on your scalp and massage it in. But, don’t rinse it just yet. Wrap your baby-oiled hair in a towel and let it penetrate into your scalp overnight. Wash off with a shampoo next morning.
6 Vinegar
Vinegar, especially cider vinegar, works really well to clear up persistent dandruff that’s been acting up during the cold weather. Rub vinegar into your scalp before you take a bath every day. You can also rinse your hair with it but remember to rinse it out well.
7 Flake off
The cold weather triggers bigger dandruff flakes to form and if you’re suffering from this problem you need to tackle it with a shampoo that contains salicylic acid. A combo of this and an anti-dandruff shampoo is often your best bet when it comes to controlling the ticker tape parade.
8 Too little washing
If your hygiene habits are less than exemplary, you could be prone to dandruff. If you wash your hair infrequently, the buildup of oils and hair products can lead to dandruff. So, make sure to wash your hair at least two to three times each week.
9 Curd conditioner
After shampooing, use curd as a hair conditioner. Make sure you massage it into your scalp and not just your hair. Leave it in for around 15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.
10 Home remedy
A natural remedy that works wonders on dandruff is a fenugreek hair mask. Soak a spoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and then grind it into a fine paste in the morning. Apply it all over the scalp and rinse it off after half an hour. Do this at least once a week.
