Setting the right tone for the entire day is always important! Sunny Rodricks tells you how to dive into your day full of energy and enthusiasm

Laugh till you drop

Laughter is the best way to start your day as it boosts your immune system and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. You can opt for laughter yoga, where you will laugh your heart out, or watch funny videos to kick-start your day. Laughter not only boosts your mood by stimulating release of dopamine and serotonin, some of our body’s most wonderful endorphins, but it also helps lower your blood pressure, burns calories and, of course, makes you happier.

Set the smile curve right

It is said that the smile is a curve that sets everything straight. So smile and shine like the morning sun. Greet your morning with a smile and be thankful for the new day. Appreciate what you have and the people in your life. A smile can keep stress away and bring about a positive change not only in you but also in those around you. Research shows that smiling is one of the most powerful human gestures and when you smile, people will smile back.

Get up and get going

Stop hitting the snooze button on your alarm and going back to sleep. Next time make sure you get out of bed immediately when the alarm goes off. Hitting the snooze button will start you off on the wrong foot. If you have extra time in the morning, use it to plan your day. The more time you allocate for this in the morning, the less you have to worry about doing things in a haste.

Make to-do lists

No matter how your day generally goes, make sure you have a to-do list in place. List down things that you would like to get done by the end of the day and set a reward for yourself for motivation. Make a realistic list of three to five goals that you want to achieve by the end of each day and you’ll see the results for yourself.

Eat a healthy breakfast

According to research from the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO), Brigham Young University and the Center for Health Research at Healthways, people who start their day with a healthy breakfast are more likely to perform better at work and are 20% more productive, in general, than those who don’t eat breakfast.

Meditate and visualize

It’s important that you start your day on a positive note. And for this reason, you should spend some time meditating. Mediation will improve memory retention, which will give a better start to your day. Visualize how you want your day to go. This will help you dictate what actually happens and set the tone for the rest of your day.

Surround yourself with positivity

To beat negativity, start your day with some inspiring and positive news from across the globe. Starting your day reading bad news can make you feel depressed and bog down your mornings. So, surround yourself with positive news and cheerful people.

Shower to power up

While you can start your day in a lot of different ways, there is no better way than a refreshing shower! It wakes you up and leaves you feeling fresh, ready to take on the day. A quick cold shower can spike your metabolism and boost your body’s immune system as well.

Hug your pet or partner

The touch of a loved one or a hug from someone special can put us in a good mood. According to research from the University of Vienna, hugging someone whom we love and trust lowers blood pressure and releases oxytocin, which lifts up our mood. Cuddling with your partner or pet can have a similar effect. A hug can make you forget all your worries.

Exercise outdoors

Morning is the best time for exercise. Working out in the morning will not only help you stay fit and healthy, but it will also improve your mood and long-term memory. Be it stretching, cycling or jogging, early morning exercise is the best medicine for a healthy mind and body. A natural booster, exercise increases your energy levels and helps you perform better throughout the day.
