Barbara, our beauty expert, will help fix your problems

Dear Barbara,

I’m in my twenties and I attend college. I’m quite caught up with my extra-curricular activities and post-college classes that I find it difficult to make time to care for my skin. I moisturise my skin from time to time, but recently I’ve seen that my skin appears dry and scaly. I didn’t pay much attention to it earlier, passing it off as an effect of the cold weather, but it’s begun to itch like crazy. Can you help me with home remedies to tackle this?

– Stacey Pereira, Borivali

Dear Stacey,

Dealing with dry skin in this season is a very common issue and one that can be easily tackled. A simple home remedy is to mix the juice of one lemon with one tablespoon of olive oil and five tablespoons of sugar. Lemon juice contains acids that loosen the dead skin cells, olive oil is rich in vitamin E and it nourishes the skin while sugar acts as a gentle exfoliator and cleans the pores of the skin. Apply this mixture with a loofah or with your hands and rinse it off well.

Dear Barbara,

I’m 28-years-old and I have stained teeth. I am really embarrassed of them! I’ve tried switching toothpastes and even used several whitening powders, but nothing seems to work. I dislike visiting the dentist, so I haven’t done my routine clean-ups either. One thing I didn’t mention earlier was that I’m a coffee buff. Please give me some solutions to get better-looking teeth?

– Sonali Narkar, Grant Road

Dear Sonali,

I’m glad you mentioned that you’re a coffee buff because certain foods, including coffee, stain the enamel and can result in the yellowing of teeth. Apart from cutting down on how much coffee you drink and scheduling regular dentist appointments, rub apple cider vinegar on your teeth, and follow this by rinsing your mouth well. However, to see any results, you need to be consistent in using it.
