The kind of roughing up done by DRI officials to Gujral has no place in civilised society. That was perverse emotional blackmail with obvious traits of extortion. ADC was the only daily to investigate and had the courage to publish it. The victim can still approach the Police for complaining about the illegal detention and wrongful confinement. Police will be able to also invoke Sec. 23 of the Indian Police Act. A private complaint to the Magistrate will be a fine back-up. These reliefs can be independent of Civil Suit.
