Hollywood pays tribute to Sridevi, Shashi Kapoor

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

Shobha De loves to put her foot in her mouth and her insensitive tweet on Sridevi's condolence meet that was held at the Celebrations Sports Club, Lokhandwala was in bad taste. 'Condolence meet at 'Celebrations' is what troubled the celebrity writer but what is in a name Mrs. De? The beautiful and gorgeous Shobha De loves to be in the news and controversies from her tweets or writings keeps her in the limelight. But the dead should be respected and Shobha De should learn to differentiate between what is entertainment for fun and some hard facts of life that deserves silence and respect. Shobha De happens to be my favourite author but her fans do have a right to point her mistakes whenever she errs!

The memoriam segment of the Oscar Awards 2018, which pays tribute to artists who died in the past one year, featured late Bollywood stars Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi alongside James Bond star Roger Moore and others, paying homage to departed superstars in the film industry. The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS) paid its tributes to Indian stars Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi in the 'In Memoriam' section of the Oscars. Kapoor was primarily known as the charming, classic actor in Bollywood for his roles in the ‘70s and ‘80s commercial films such as Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Namak Halal and Kaala Patthar. It was indeed a fitting tribute to both Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi that Oscar remembered the two veterans of Indian cinema in a fitting way in the memoriam segment.

If an ordinary person like Sridevi can get a State funeral, then what about our VIPs? They deserve much more. Shame on the Maharashtra government for giving Sridevi who is just an actress and nothing more, a State funeral.
