Rahul Gandhi’s Temple visit overhyped?

Monday, December 04, 2017

Ref. Prasoon Joshi’s column (ADC Dec 2). If anything highlights the absurdity of Indian politics in the present day, it is the infructuous and frankly ridiculous, with emphasis  on the controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Somnath temple and whether or not he is a “true” Hindu. One can only hope that Indian voters are not so gullible as to be distracted by these gimmicks, whose only purpose is to conceal the lack of positive accomplishments by either of the parties involved. In my opinion, the Congress fell into the BJP’s trap by scrambling to defend Rahul’s religious credentials. Instead, they should have asked the BJP whether in their philosophy, only a Hindu had the right to wield power in our country. That is precisely the BJP/RSS philosophy; and their hand has been strengthened by the realisation that they no longer need minority votes to win elections. That is why theatrics like PM Modi halting mid speech to allow the azaan’s call are a bit hard to swallow.

Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20)Today will be an industrious day. The stars foretell that you may visit a historical place, or perhaps a museum. However, Ganesha says, you may need to pay a little attention to your health. If such is the case, it would be better to take the evening off for yourself.
