THE LADIES RULE OUR HEARTS

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

History failed to repeat at Lords but our women's team won the hearts of all with some outstanding cricket in the tournament. We lost the final by a whisker to England whom we had beaten in the group stage & it was 'so near but yet so far' for Mithali Raj & her team who had the fans back home thrilled by their performance till the last over of the tournament. English women never gave up hope even when the chips were down & Anya Shrubsole turned the tide in their favor with a brilliant 6 wicket haul that broke the hearts of a billion & quarter population back home in India.

Well played England & tough luck for the Indians. Mithali Raj's run out I thought was the turning point of our downfall but Indian captain along with Harmanpreet, Veda Krishnamurthy, Raut & her tribe deserves kudos for getting India so far in the tournament. Women's cricket has come a long way & Indian govt should give them all the encouragement to make women's cricket more popular & competitive in our country.

Congrats Indian Ladies team
An absolute 'blinder' from Harmanpreet Kaur knocked out defending champions Australia to put India in the final of the Women's World Cup.

Unbeaten 171 off 115-ball was perhaps one of the best innings ever witnessed in an women's international game & big hitting Kaur would have bigger milestones against her name in the years to come. Her brilliant knock reminded us of Sehwag & Dhoni at their very best and Sunday's final against England was also very exciting. Aussies rear guard action did take them close to India's mammoth total but our women folk were deserving winners in a game dominated by some brilliant performances with the bat from both sides.

Beating England in Sunday's final was just a pipedream as the team faltered at the final hurdle and fell a few runs short of achieving a creditable and deserved win.   Here is wishing Mithali Raj & her team tall the best in the future. Well played India.
