The 'Padmavat' fiasco to be continued...

Friday, January 12, 2018

I wonder how film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali would be absolved of his shortcomings and blames (if indeed there are any ) by changing the name of his much controversial film from Padmavati to Padmavat! William Shakespeare would be disappointed of the fact that his maxim that, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" has been dispelled since a change in a name has made a huge difference. However, all this imbroglio has amounted to "Much ado about nothing" and now Shakespeare would be pleased and stand vindicated. Be that as it may, there are no cuts suggested in the film and only five modifications, Censor Board Chairman Prasoon Joshi has said. There is a disclaimer that the film does not claim historical accuracy and incorporates a second disclaimer that makes a point that the film does not subscribe to the practice of Sati or seek to glorify it. A song has been also modified. However, "All's well that ends well" Shakespeare would be pleased!!! The only person who would not be pleased is Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He would have preferred 'Padmavat' to be replaced by 'PadmaGST', in a lighter vein of course.
