Afternoon D & C Dedicated To Mumbai

The death of a celebrity brings sorrow only to her family, closes friends and professional colleagues. For the rest the event is an example of “schadenfraude” where a lot of amusement is obtained from other people’s sorrow or misery. The media too suddenly gets an opportunity to fill sound bytes and column centimeters and increase TRPs. However, the state adds to the tamasha by unnecessarily declaring a state funeral for no valid reason at all. Look at the irony; a film-star gets a state funeral but not a Sankaracharya, though the later couldn’t care a hoot. A comment was made that Sridevi was a Padma Shri. Has every Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan got a state funeral? Evidently, the state has some vested interests in the case of people from certain fields as those professions and the state massage each other. To be fair, let me state there are some Presidents and Prime Ministers who did not deserve a state funeral.

"Khoda Pahad Nikla Chuha" is the best metaphor to describe the late Sridevi's ordeal in Dubai post her sad demise on Saturday night. Difficult to believe Sridevi died of drowning in a bathtub but that is all the efficient Dubai police could establish after three days of round the clock investigations.
Something surely is a miss here and the Indian government can reopen the investigation as it concerns a healthy citizen of the country who died in controversial circumstances on an foreign land. Was it media pressure who were reporting round the clock with their own versions or pressure from top powerful people who have a say in Dubai? One is not sure! But the truth of the matter needs to be established as an innocent life was lost and the government should consult the top legal brains to unearth what really was the reason for Sridevi's death!
