CBI getting threats, court told
JODHPUR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday that investigators and witnesses were getting threats in the missing nurse Bhanwari Devi case. The bench of Justice Govind Mathur and Justice K.C. Joshi asked CBI counsel Panne Singh to submit these claims in writing. The CBI’s assertion came during the hearing on a habeas corpus petition filed by Bhanwari Devi’s husband Amarchand for tracing his missing wife. Amarchand filed the plea before he was arrested by the CBI on charges of being involved in the conspiracy of his wife’s disappearance.
Naxals have close links with Philippines, Turkey groups
NEW DELHI: The CPI(Maoist) is having close links with Maoist organisations in Philippines and Turkey and it has become a member of an anti-India international underground group. According to a Home Ministry report, the CPI (Maoist) is also having close fraternal ties with many Northeast India based insurgent groups, especially the PLA of Manipur, and frequently expressed their solidarity with the Kashmiri terrorist groups. “The CPI (Maoist) is having close links with foreign Maoist organisations in Philippines, Turkey, etc. The outfit is also member of the ‘Coordination Committee of Maoist Parties and Organisations of South Asia (CCOMPOSA), which includes Nepalese Maoists,” the report said.
Gujarat University’s VC held in atrocity case, released
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat University (GU) Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi was on Tuesday arrested in connection with an atrocity case and was later released on bail by a local magisterial court here. On May 3, 2008, head of the history department at L&C Mehta Arts College and University Senate member, Pankaj Shrimali, had filed a case against Trivedi under sections 3(1) and (10) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Police arrests constable in Jarawa case
PORT BLAIR: Cracking the case of videography of semi-naked Jarawa tribal women, police on Tuesday arrested a constable who had allegedly asked the victims to dance and had shot their video. The Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested constable Silvarious Kindo after interrogating him at length following his identification by the victims. “The probe reveals that the video was possibly shot in the months of July to November, 2007. The said video, which was broadcast on news channels, has also been sent for forensic examination to ascertain its date of recording and the device used to record the same,” a police spokesperson said.
