CROWD-PLEASERS ON D-DAY
The fashion brigade was out in full force as all roads led to Mahalaxmi for Mumbai’s racing showpiece event, the Indian Derby. Even as fashionistas avidly scoured the form book, dressed as they were to the nines, rank outsider Rochester pipped Lady In Lace in a grandstand finish, which was witnessed by a well-turned out crowd. From the young to the old, the splendidly dressed and superbly tressed females, complete with a spectacular range of hats caught the eye.

The fashionable crowd not averse to clicking more than a range of selfies had a gala time, with music, dancing, singing and what not, on Mumbai’s day to remember at the races. Photographers Trupti Arekar and Santosh Gupta were at hand to watch the dames and damsels preen and strut. No doubt, there was a huge crowd who immensely enjoyed the day’s proceedings which were marked by 12 horses vying for honours in the Derby. Rank outsider Rochester stole the honours, with an impressive turn of speed in the 2,400 metres race which was a test of speed and stamina. So much for the horses, the day’s honours ultimately belonged to the huge crowd.
