Green Ganesha
The 10 day long Ganesh festival is celebrated with great fervour in Mumbai. Music, lights, songs, decorations, themes, colours and firecrackers are used to honour the elephant headed God who is also considered to be a symbol of good fortune, wisdom, prosperity and wealth.
However, people are increasingly growing conscious of nature and the environment around us. The sale of eco-friendly Ganpati idols, which do not cause any harm to the environment, are on the rise. Various materials ranging from shadu (natural clay), flour, paper pulp, natural gums, natural colours etc. are used to make the idol of Ganesha.
The Afternoon D&C team of photographers Trupti Arekar, Santosh Gupta and Azad Shrivastav visited various workshops across the city and captured glimpses of the 'Vighnaharta' in the making.
