Historical records suggest that Mulund dates back to the time of Mauryan Empire.
Back then, Mulund along with the nearby suburbs were together were known as Muchchalind. Mulund is the earliest-planned suburb of Mumbai city, a gridiron plan was designed by architects Crown & Carter in 1922, which extends from present-day Mulund station to Paanch Rasta junction in Mulund (West).
There is a railway station in Mulund under the same name along the central railway. Mulund is nestled alongside the foothills of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SNGP) with easy access to the Eastern Express Highway and Navi Mumbai through the Mulund-Airoli Bridge.
Additionally, it is easy to go to Thane or Mumbai North-Western such as Borivali from Mulund.
Over the years, malls and several residential projects came up in Mulund.
