Cleaning stains, the right way

Although unavoidable, it is important to know how to treat stains and spills

Stains are an inevitable part of life. It’s hard to imagine a spotless floor. Stains, scuffs and smudges are bound to crop up after usage over the years. The longer most stains set, the harder they are to remove without damage to the stained surface. If you haven't identified the stain correctly, or if you use an improper stain-removing agent or technique, you may make the stain permanent and cause additional damage to the stained object. Once you understand the basic rules about treating stains and spots, you'll be able to deal with them more effectively -- no more wasting time trying to rinse away a stain with tap water when what it needs is to be treated with a stain-removal product. It is important to know how to treat stains and spills. Listed below are some effective ways to deal with them.

There are several types of stains and spills such as Acids,  mustard, soaps, dye, dye markings, iodine, rust, food, candy, fruit and fruit juices. To clean such types of spills and stain try following tips.

1. Blot up excess at once
2. Rub lightly with a cloth dipped in mineral spirits or paint thinner
3. If paint is dry, gently peel it from the floor
4. Clean area with cleaner

Certain stains won't wipe up such as adhesives, asphalt, chewing gum, oil, grease, candle wax . To remove such types of stains flowing remedy will be definitely useful.
1. Remove excess with a dull kitchen knife (avoid sharp instruments that could scratch the floor)
2. Rub lightly with lighter fluid on a clean cloth
3. Clean area with cleaner
4. If floor appears dulled, apply floor polish

Scuffs and smudges
There are several methods one can use removing scuffs on satin-gloss and high-gloss floors:
1. Spray cleaner on the scuff. Let stand for 10-15 seconds; then rinse with a sponge or cloth.
2. Using a damp sponge, rub scuffed area with a polishing cleaner then rinse with a sponge or cloth.
3. Wipe scuff with lighter fluid applied with a clean cloth.
4. With a rubbing motion, apply a car polish/cleaner or similar product on the area, then rinse thoroughly.

  • The quicker, the better. The optimum time to treat a stain is within moments of its occurrence. The longer a stain sets, the more likely it is to become permanent.
     
  • Never iron stained fabrics. Heat can make a stain impossible to remove.
     
  • Handle stained items gently. Rubbing, folding, wringing, or squeezing can cause the stain to penetrate more deeply and may damage delicate fibers.
     
  • If the stain does not go away trying the several remedies,bleach method is always advisable. Bleach Method is saturate a clean, white terry cloth towel with full-strength bleach. Keep the area well ventilated during treatment. Place the towel over the stained area and leave it in place until the towel has dried, overnight if necessary. Remove towel and check to see if the stain has lightened. Repeat procedures until the stain has sufficiently lightened. Clean the area with cleaner.
