Bridgestone bags title sponsorship rights for WSH
MUMBAI:  Tyre manufacterers Bridgestone has come on board as the ‘Title Sponsor’ of World Series Hockey (WSH), the biggest-ever hockey league in the world.The World Series Hockey will be held from February 29 to April 2, 2012, and will involve 200 leading players — Indian and international — who will showcase their talent in 59 matches and vie for the biggest prize money hockey tournament in the world.

MUMBAI: Prashant Sawant notched a fine hat-trick to guide Sunday Boys to a facile 4-1 victory against Income Tax in a Super Division encounter of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league, played at the Poinsur Gymkhana ground, Kandivali on Tuesday evening.In another match, Companeroes continued their solid run as they bulldozed their way to an emphatic 4-0 win against State Bank of India.

Mumbai sea swim competition resumes after four-year gap

MUMBAI: Stopped after the 26/11 terror attack, the annual open sea swimming competition from Sunk Rock to Gateway of India will be held after a gap of four years on February 25. Over 500 competitors in 10 categories, including four special events for the physically challenged swimmers, would take part in the Square Off Mumbai Swimathon. The sea swimming competition is supported by the state government, Mumbai Port Trust, Mumbai Police, Indian Navy, Coast Guard and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and is being held under the auspices of the MSAA.

Parmar nets three for Theresians
MUMBAI: Theresians FC, Bandra powered by Amit Parmar’s triple strikes charged to a 7-2 win over Indian Gymkhana, Matunga in a First Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league, played at the MSSA ground, Dhobitalao. Gavin Fernandes and Shanon Fletcher scored two goals apiece to complete the tally for the winners. Charles Sam netted both the goals for the losers.
 
St Paul’s down ANZA 3-0
MUMBAI: St. Paul’s, Dadar outplayed Dr. Antonio D’Souza (ANZA), Byculla 3-0 in an inconsequential boys’ under-12 concluding round-robin league match of the Goan Sports Association (GSA) organized 6th Inter-schools football tournament and played at the GSA ground, Cross Maidan on Tuesday evening.Strikers Duran D’Souza, Ronson Patel and Cornelius Rodrigues scored one goal each to complete their fluent victory.
 
Avalon strikes winner for Chimbai

MUMBAI: Chimbai FC recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win against a determined Holy Cross, Santacruz in a men’s open first round match of the Kotak Mahindra Bank-Bandra Gymkhana floodlit 5-a-side rink football tournament conducted by the Bandra Gymkhana and played at the DPRC (Demonte Park Recreation Centre) grounds.

In one the most exciting contest of the evening, Avalon D, scored the all-important goal in the second half, which ensured Chimbai a win and a passage to the next round.

In women’s round-robin league matches, Young Xavierites overcame Holy Family, Andheri by a narrow 2-1 margin and in anther match, Bodyline and 7070 Bandra played out a goalless draw.
