MUMBAI: Prolific striker Johnson Mathews was at his scoring best and with a fine hat-trick went on to hog the limelight. Johnson’s excellent efforts were instrumental in St. Francis D’Assisi, Borivali romping to a comfortable 5-0 win against St. Anthony’s, Vakola in a boys’ under-12 round-robin league match of the Goan Sports Association (GSA) organized Inter-schools football tournament played at the GSA ground, Cross Maidan on Monday afternoon.
In a one-sided affair, Johnson, who had netted the all-important winning goal in their 1-0 win over Bal Mohan last week, showed fine opportunism by scoring the second, third and fourth goals for the Borivali schoolboys. Viren Mudaliyar had earlier got the opening goal while Sherwin D’Mello scored the fifth to round off the tally.
Later in another encounter played in the evening, St. Stanislaus, Bandra blanked Dr. Antonio D’Souza (ANZA) by a 2-0 margin. Gerrard Quadros and Nathan Rossario were on target for the Bandra lads.
In the third match of the day, Don Bosco ‘A’, Matunga were held to goalless draw by a spirited St Joseph’s, Wadala.
