Aadesh Bandekar is a well known name in Marathi telly-wood. Known for his performances in popular shows like Avghachi Sansar and Avantika and hosting shows like Eka Peksha Ek, Home Minister, Hafta Bandh, Tak Dhina Din, Wow, etc; he is a familiar name associated with game shows. Now he hosts a new game show on ETV Marathi called DNA which starts soon in the Monday-Tuesday 9.30 p.m. slot. We spoke to the genial Aadesh about his new show. We spoke to him about the show. Here’s what he had to say.
What is the game show ‘DNA-Ek matra family show’ all about?
Basically it is about recognising your family members, generally children; from the photographs displayed on the screen which might be your father, your mother, and your grand parents and so on. The features on the photographs are the only clues. Many celebs like Sonali Kukarni, Vinod Kambli will be the participants along with common people. Every episode will have a prize money winner and there will be a bumper prize winner too.
Aren’t you tired of doing so many hosting game shows?
Not really. Because I take up what is offered to me and I really respect any work that comes to me. Doing so many hosting of shows is just a co-incidence. Home Minister was planned as a short-time show but it ran for 1,600 episodes. Eka Peksha Ek; I hosted the dance reality show for two seasons. Wow was never planned for 70 episodes and Hafta Bandh was also a huge success. So, when DNA was offered to me I liked the concept and since it’s a family show I agreed to do it.
Who has conceptualised the show?
The ETV programming team has conceptualized the show and it’s been done before on ETV Telegu, to the best of my knowledge.
You were considered as a ZEE TV regular. So, why this shift to ETV Marathi?
No specific reason. I still have cordial relations with ZEE. I constantly worked with them for more than ten years. Interim, there was no work and when I got an offer from ETV for hosting WOW and now DNA, I readily accepted.
How is your stint in politics?
Yes. I am still starting and I want to do a lot of good for people and that is my only agenda. Everyone knows I stood for elections on a Shiv Sena ticket and though I lost I am still active in the party.
You are not seen much in daily soaps. Any particular reason?
I am not offered such shows and I don’t know why though I am keen on them.
I am waiting for my screen debut. Because I completed a film called Vishwas with Mrunal Kulkarni but the producers didn’t release the film after a premiere.
To whom would you attribute your success too?
To my parents, to my wife Sucheta, to my son Soham, and my entire family who always greet me with a smile even if I have been out of the house for a long period. I would also like to thank Neena Raut of Doordarshan who first encouraged me to host a show called Tak Dhina Din.
