He was initiated into music by his mother Meenal Kale (a disciple of Veena Sahasrabuddhe). The versatile Kalke is also proficient at Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Bhajans, Bhavgeet, and Natyasangeet, gives lecture-demonstrations in various universities in the USA. He was profiled as the Artiste of the Month by Harvard Sangeet in 2008. He has also been teaching music to students in San Francisco. He had received the National Film award for Best Playback Singer for the film 'Katyaar Kaalljaat Ghusali' (2015). Now he is one of the three judges of the new musical reality TV show Sur Navaa Dhyaas Nava being aired on Colors Marathi from Monday to Wednesday at 9:30 pm. Vocalist Kale spoke exclusively to The Afternoon D&C. Excerpts:

What is the USP of this TV show ?
This is a unique program in which 15 established artistes are competing for the top position. They include Vaishali Made, Nihira Joshi, Dhyaneshwar Meshram and others.'Every moment should be special with music' is the motto of this show. The participants are expected to improve and reinvent themselves through this show.

How do you find participating in this reality TV show?
I am very new in this journey of TV reality shows. The participants are well known singers, who have participated across reality shows on national television and it is a satisfying experience to hear them. I am fortunate that I got to learn from Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and I am trying to pass these learnings to the participants through this show.

What is the format of this TV show ?
The singers are divided into three groups belonging to each judge; Avadhoot Gupte, Shalmali Kholgade and I. But, the marks are given to the participants by the judges of the opposite group and not by the same judge in whose group they are. We try to help participants to excel in their musical journey. This is certainly a musical extravaganza for the viewers.

Is there a fierce competition among the participants?
The competition is already there, but the artists participate with a sporting spirit. They jointly sing chorus and are like a family.

Which are your forthcoming projects ?
Recently, Kaushiki Chakraborty and I recorded a duet titled Gayeja for Times Music. The music for the song has been scored by Salil Kulkarni. I am concentrating on work on hand. But if better offers come, I will accept them.

What about singing songs in other languages?
Music means life, penance and true happiness, which helps us to forget stress. The emotions have no language. As such I would like to sing in any language.

Any attempt to enter Bollywood?
It depends upon the offers I may receive. But honestly, I have no fascination for Bollywood as such.

Which musical instruments do you play?
I play the tabla, harmonium, key board and various other instruments.

To whom do you give credit for your ascending career graph?
Of course I am grateful to all my genius Gurus. I staunchly believe in Indian culture.

Since how long you are in the field of music ?
Since my college days, I have been participating in various musical concerts. I used to study in Ferguson College in Pune.
