I wish to create my own unique image: Sayali Sanjeev

Charming TV and film actress Sayali Sanjeev, who shot to fame with Marathi TV soap  'Kahe Diya Pardes' (Zee Marathi) is now slated to appear in 'Gulmohar', a Marathi TV series (Zee Yuva) which showcases various short stories, to be telecast on March 5 and 6. She spoke exclusively  to The Afternoon D & C. Excerpts:

How did you begin your career ?
During my college days, I did some modelling assignments, participated in ramp shows, entered some fashion shows and beauty pageants which helped me get TV commercials for various reputed brands like Quikr, Birla Eyecare and Colgate Neem Toothpaste.  

What about reality TV shows ?
I had participated in '9x Jhakkas' reality show (Jhakaas Heroine show).

Tell us something about your new TV show.
I will be appearing in two episodes of 'Vada Pav, Veg Khaandvi' directed by Mandar Devsthali.
 
Is this TV serial related to food ?
Hmm..in a way…. yes.
 
Which have been your earlier films?
I  have acted in films like 'Police Line', 'Atpadi Nights', 'Alibagh Bypass' etc., earlier.
 
Besides Marathi, in which other films have you acted in?
I have also acted in a few Tamil and Bengali films.
 
What about your forthcoming ventures ?
I have completed shooting for an untitled Marathi film directed by Mrinmayi Deshpande. Besides, I have completed another film 'Sataarcha Salman' directed by Hemantji Dhome.
 
What has been the turning point in your career ?
I consider  'Kahe Diya Pardes' as a big break, a turning point and every thing that luck had to offer to me.
 
Do you also dabble in writing, direction and vocal music ?
Yes, in fact I had written and directed a short film 'You In My Dream'. I also sang a song 'Mi Baavari' for an album titled 'Aathavta Ka Tula'.
 
Who is your favourite actor?
I like Mohan Joshi. It is astonishing that at such a seniority level, he goes on working constantly.
 
Do you have any theatre background ?
Not really. I acted only in one, this one-act play 'Langda More', that too after my graduation.

Any dream role ? Your preference is heroine or anti-heroine?
Rather than being type-cast, I would like to essay variety of roles which are challenging and satisfying.

If not actress what would you have been ?
Political Analys !  I would love to do further studies in this vast subject.
 
What are your hobbies ?
I like drawing, sketching,  sanskar-bharati rangoli etc.
 
Do you like to listen to music ?
Yes I regularly listen to ‘natya sangeet’, especially ‘Bal Gandharva’ songs..
 
Who are your inspiring idols ?
I admire actresses Smita Patil, Mukta Barve and Shubhangi Gokhale. But there is nothing like role  models. I would like to create my own unique image and prove my versatile talent..
