Actor Sandeep Pathak, whose excellence is predominantly viewed in Marathi theatre, Marathi Television and Marathi Cinema, is going strong as a co-host of the 'Comedychi GST Express' on “Colors Marathi”. He spoke exclusively to The Afternoon D & C. Excerpts:

After playing few character roles, you are anchoring 'Comedychi GST Express”. What does GST stand for and how do you find this new role?
The 'Comedychi GST Express' is quite interesting, GST means 'Gaayab Saglla Tension'. In true sense it is a laugh-riot . As the viewers watch the show, they drive away tension. No competition. No Judges. No Scores and No Tension, only tax - free laughter from  the skits that make everyone leave  tensions behind.
How is the team-work?
Its  simply excellent. Avadhoot Gupte, was the first person viewer for the show. Priyadarshan Jadhav and I anchor the show. It is produced by Santosh-ji Kanekar and directed by Dnyanesh Bhalekar.
Besides this which other TV serials or plays are you  doing?
Besides this show, I am concentrating only on the Marathi play 'Rudram'.
What about films?
My forthcoming films are 'Video Parlour' (directed by Prasad Manjoshi) and 'Idak' (directed by Deepak Gawade). Idak means a goat in colloquial Marathi language. These films are expected to be released by this year end.
You have an assortment of films which include award winning 'Shwaas' (2004), 'Harishchandrachi Factory' (2009) and 'Rangaa Patangaa' (2016). Which film you liked the most and which director you admire?
I enjoyed working with all directors because every director has a style of his own. But I admire director Prasadbhau Namjoshi the most, with whom I worked in 'Rangaa Patangaa' and I am awaiting anxiously for the forthcoming 'Video Parlour', directed by Namjoshi. For 'Rangaa Patangaa' I h also won the award for Best Supporting Actor from the Maharashtra Government.
Which films gave you real recognition?
The films 'Ek Hazarachi Note' (2014) and 'Rangaa Patangaa' (2016) gave me popular recognition.
You have worked in many TV serials including  “ Fu Bai Fu”, ” Eka Lagnachi Dusari Goshta” and  “Mazhe Pati Saubhagyavati”. Which serial you liked most ?
I enjoyed all serials, but “Fu Bai Fu” had been most remarkable since it is the best example of a laugh-riot.
In future you would like to groom yourself as – a hero, a character artist or a villain?
I would like to groom myself as a villain in future.
Tell us about your progress in Drama-Theatre?
In fact I enjoy working in all the three mediums. But I must mention about the block buster  comedy play 'Varhad Nighalay Londonla' in which I had a lead role.
Tell us something about your background ?
I come from  Beed district of the Marathwada region. My parents were into performing arts. While in school and college, I participated in many annual gatherings and competitions.  After I completed HSC, I realized that my true calling was from the world of acting and I decided to make it  my career. I attended the Lalit Kala Kendra to further my  experience in acting. I came to Mumbai in 2001 and I was nurtured  as an actor in many Zee Marathi TV serials.
