Film and TV actor Shreyas Talpade, who shot to fame with his portrayal of a cricket-obsessed deaf and mute boy’s role in Hindi sports drama film 'Iqbal' has made a comeback on the small screen after a gap of many years. He is seen in Zee Yuva’s new Marathi TV serial 'Gulmohar', being telecast every Monday-Tuesday at 9:30 pm. In an exclusive candid conversation with The Afternoon D & C, he shared his views. Excerpts:

You have staged a comeback on small screen after many years. How do you feel about it?
In fact, I feel nostalgic, because in the initial days of my career, I had essayed roles in many TV soaps  including 'Damini', 'Avantika' and  'Aabhal Maya'. I had thoroughly enjoyed working in 'Aabhaall Maya', with director Mandaar Deosthali, who is my friend. As such when Mandaar offered me the role in 'Gulmohar', I promptly accepted it.

Tell us the story line...
The show is based on episodic stories portraying relationships and seeks to narrate intense and exhilarating love stories of different people who cross the boundaries, put everything at stake and go to unimaginable levels to win the hearts of the ones they love in the most unconventional manner. The stories seek to show fulfillment of fantasy and an aspirational quality. Each unique story has a high intensity build-up of romantic moments creating striking visuals.

Isn’t  this soap based on romance?
Actually, it is much more than that. Love is the basic necessity for every relationship to blossom. With love, each relation grows stronger with each passing day. Everybody has fallen in love, at least once in a lifetime. Everyone has felt or expressed their love at least once. That love can be a bonding between a couples or relations like mother-child or husband-wife.

What do you feel about the Yuva Channel?
'Zee Yuva' ( under Zee network) has been true to its tag line - 'Naave Parva…Yuva Sarv', by catching-up with the feelings of new generation through serials. It might the bonding of friendship and love…the golden era of everybody life i.e. college life or hostel life. Girija Oak-Godbole, Udhay Sabanis and Uday Tikekar are essaying important roles in this TV serial.

Do you recall any memorable turning point in your career ?

I consider my role in 'Iqbal' as the most memorable one, which not only proved a turning point in my career but also offered me many more opportunities.

You have acted in over 30 films including the iconic SRK-Deepika Padukone starrer 'Om Shanti Om’. In fact you have acted in more films then soaps. Any dream role you want to play?
More than categorizing roles, whether in films or soaps, I would like to essay any role which will make me deliver the best of my ability and talent.

Who is your idol?
Amitabh Bachchan is my idol. He is a rare example of how one can reach dizzy heights in career with sheer dedication and hard work. I had the privilege to interact with him in some live events.

Which are your future projects?
I am essaying a role in an upcoming untitled Hindi film.

Any further plans to produce a film under your home production banner like you produced the Marathi film 'Poshter Boyz'?
Well….plans are underway.
