Vidhi Parekh, the fresh young lead from the upcoming show Jamuna Paar, spoke with Ansy A about her aspirations and her idols. The show, which will be aired from Feb 27, is the debut for the young star
- Tell us a bit about the role you play?
I am playing Vidhi Malhotra, a fashion designer who is career-oriented and doesn’t get enough love from her family. She is living with her step family … and one day she meets this guy who is full of life. My character is that of a sophisticated girl who is coming in contact with a guy who has lot of love to give her.
I am originally from Pune and an engineer by profession. I have done my Engineering in electronics and tele-communication. After that I decided to shift to management. I have been working as an HR professional in Pune. I had even thought of doing an MBA. Everything was planned … till the opportunity to act came by. I come from a Gujarati joint family and I never imagined entering this field.
- How did you bag this role?
I was spotted at a food mall! I was travelling from Mumbai to Pune when they approached me at the food mall and said I was right for the character. Soon I gave the audition. I was extremely shy but they groomed me. I sat for sessions with various artistes and experts so that I could brush up on my skills. I now have the challenge to prove myself ...
- Why such a drastic shift in career?
Because I knew whatever I do, I will do it right and will put my heart and soul in it. So I’ve given acting a try… But it wasn’t easy... I was made to cry and often wanted to run away but soon enough I picked up pace. My family supported me immensely and that really mattered at every stage.
- It’s been a few weeks of shooting now. Is it fun on d sets?
It has been a lot of fun doing every single scene. As the lead character I have to often shift from a crying scene to a love scene and since I am not a pro, it has been difficult. But it has indeed been a great learning experience. Ankur Verma (who plays Bijju), my co-star is fun to be with… we are all youngsters. The show has fresh faces filled with youngsters—not the typical saas bahu types. It is a family oriented show but will appeal to the youth as well.
I like watching Dr. Nidhi's character from Kuch toh log kahenge... I also like natural actors like Kajol.
