My exuberant role of Dhwani is a precious B’Day gift for me: Jigyasa Singh

By Chaitanya Padukone

The effervescent Jigyasa Singh,  put on an endearing award-worthy performance as the ambitious girl 'Thapki', with that stutter-stammer disability in the popular TV show  'Thapki Pyar Ki'. Charming 'chulbuli' Jigyasa is back with a bang in this gripping detective thriller show 'Dev 2', which has just commenced telecast and will air every Monday to Thursday at 10.30 pm on Colors. It has the debonair sleuth Ashish Chowdhury (basically a Bollywood actor) who continues to play the title role with his full-on swag-style, opposite sultry, hot-babe Puja Banerjee. The ADC chatted with the jovial Jigyasa regarding her latest screen avataar. Excerpts:

What impressed you when you watched the previous season of 'Dev' on Colors?
Honestly, I was fascinated with the unconventional crime-thriller concept, the treatment, the intense performances of Ashish, Puja, Sumona and of course Amit who plays the stern cop. Subconsciously, I also used to wish that I should be part of the 'Dev' cast.

So how did you bag this newly created role of Dhwani?
(Laughs) Actually I grabbed the role, because I was always craving to play a vibrant, romantic, hyper-energetic role like Dhwani, which is in total contrast to my previous vulnerable 'Thapki' character.

The show went on air on your birthday (June 25)...
The character Dhwani is perhaps my most precious 'birthday gift' till date. As you are aware, there was an advance-surprise-informal birthday cake cutting ceremony with the entire cast, in the presence of the media. Gosh, I was so overwhelmed!

What is the 'khaas baat' of your character?
Like Basanti in the movie 'Sholay', my bubbly, volatile yet cute, urban character Dhwani loves non-stop talking and gets hyper-excited. She is also a secret admirer of detective Dev's charisma and his detection skills. In my academic career, I am studying criminology as my dad is shown to be a leading criminal lawyer.

Please continue...
Initially, I join Dev as  an intern, but being a tech-savvy girl I also come up sometimes with brilliant inputs to help nab the suspect-culprits. My nature is shown to be  extra-curious (that's why my off-screen name is 'Jigyasa' (giggles). Besides, my character has her own past back-story, where there is an ominous over-smart stalker who is making her life a merry hell. We shoot for 'Dev' on actual different outdoor realistic locations which prevents monotony as compared to shooting in studios.

Any reality TV show on your wish-list?
Although the show looks quite scary and repulsive at times, I would love to participate in 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' and possibly get rid of my phobias.

If offered a Bollywood movie role, who would your dream hero be?
Everyone around me is  aware, that I have this huge crush on handsome star-actor Ranbir Kapoor and would love to co-star with him in a movie some day.
