SUNSHINE ON A CLOUDY DAY

Thursday, August 02, 2012

Your home doesn’t have to reflect the gloomy weather outside. Rhea Dhanbhoora & Dev Goswami show you how to let a little happiness in with some great yellow décor...

On an overcast day when you’re stuck indoors, it’s a good idea to look around and have bright, cheerful décor to put brightness back into your day. A small change in décor goes a long way in helping you forget the waterlogged streets, cloudy skies and rolling peals of thunder outside. Creative director of online home store, Zansaar.com, Nikita Bhargav says, “Yellow is a colour that's made it big this year in the interior space. It has a retro feel and is a positive colour. But, it is also one of the most difficult colours to work with. The trick is to get the right shade that matches your taste. Colours such as grey or brown can also help balance all the energy of yellow." Take a look at some great picks:

Tips on decorating
Worried you’ll go overboard while decorating? Parag Pandya, an interior designer who has done up celebrity homes for the likes of Emran Hashmi, Sunidhi Chauhan and Mukesh Bhatt, gives us a few tips on how to make your home bright without being gaudy:

  •  Use the colour yellow in a subtle tone when you’re putting up curtains.

  •  You can use yellow as fabric for your sofa or for your bed linen and quilts.

  •  It’s a very bright colour, so don’t overdo it. A few touches here and there will do the trick.

  •  Don’t make your walls and ceiling yellow, instead of making your room brighter, it will end up looking very dull.

  •  Lights and lamps (lighting in general) are perfect to give your home a warm, yellow glow.
