Gargi Bansod tells you what to watch out for when you’re narrowing down on a parlour for regular visits
1. Cleaning act
Do check if they clean their brushes, sponges and lay out freshly washed towels for each client. Make sure re-usable equipment, such as tweezers and wax knives, are sterilised between use on clients.
2. Employees
Make sure that the lady who is going to do your treatment has washed her hands before and after attending to a client. They must wear a clean apron at all times during work. If a worker has a cut or open wound on their hands or fingers, they should cover it with a secure waterproof dressing.
3. Equipment
Check if all the equipment is cleaned between use, including combs, brushes, rollers, streaking caps, clippers and scissors. If some instruments (such as nail files) come in contact with any bodily fluids, then they should be sanitised.
4. Treatments
After the treatments, use an alcohol-based sanitiser which will provide protection to both you and your parlour lady from cross infection. Keep an eye out and check if all waste, such as cotton and wax strips, are bagged and disposed off properly.
5. Work surfaces
The work surfaces such as the chairs, sofas and waxing tables should be cleaned on a regular basis. Also, the hair fallen on the floor should be swept up immediately.
