Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday visited a prominent secular writer at a military hospital who is undergoing treatment after getting stabbed multiple times by a man who claimed that the author was an "enemy of Islam".

127-mn-year-old bird fossil sheds light on avian evolution

Scientists have discovered a tiny fossil of a prehistoric baby bird, which can help them understand how early avians came into the world in the age of dinosaurs. The fossil, which dates back to the Mesozoic Era (250-65 million years ago), is a chick from a group of prehistoric birds called Enantiornithes.

9 killed, 29 injured in accident in Pakistan
Islamabad:
A passenger bus collided head-on with a truck on an inter-city highway in Pakistan, killing at least nine people, including one woman and two children, and injuring 29 others, according to a media report. The incident occurred after the truck attempted to overtake another vehicle and hit the passenger bus coming from opposite direction, Geo News reported.

Fresh air raids on Syria's Ghouta kill 14: monitor

Fresh air raids by the Syrian regime on the besieged rebel-held enclave of Eastern Ghouta killed at least 14 civilians overnight, a monitor said yesterday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said barrel bombs -- crude, improvised munitions that cause indiscriminate damage -- were used, including on the town of Hammuriyeh, where 10 people were killed.

China to launch Long March 5B rocket into space in 2019
Beijing:
China's heavy lift Long March-5B carrier rocket, which is capable of carrying a payload of 25,000 kg in low earth orbit, will be launched into space in 2019, a top space official has said.
