Like her famous outspoken legendary mega-star dad Shatrughan Sinha, star-beti Sonakshi Sinha is also known for bluntly calling a spade a spade, and not a shovel.
After having acted in a string of family-centric social thrillers actress Sonakshi will now be seen in this maverick movie titled ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’ directed by the talented Shilpi Dasgupta.
“Our movie laced with funny humour and musical support from iconic rapper Badshah, highlights a topic that’s least discussed in this country that boasts of a population of 135 crores. Yes, sex,” shrugs the vivacious ‘Dabangg’ girl.
But wasn’t she apprehensive taking up this taboo, sensitive subject where this young woman-character Babita Baby Bedi runs a ‘sex clinic’?
“Initially I had my reservations, but when I heard the entire story narration, I realized how relevant it is even in today's tech-savvy whatsapp-instagram day and age. I am glad that Shilpi decided to make a film about the touchy sex taboos in our country. Its a very brave attempt. I would like to encourage people to follow Baby Bedi's tagline that is, ‘Sharmaao math...Baat toh karo... Within the limits of decent entertainment and cool, funny, wacko humour, the movie ‘Khaandaani…’ builds an awareness campaign to break the stigma around sex in our prudish Indian society, especially in small towns and even metro-urban zones,” shrugs agile dancer-actress Sonakshi who was last seen in Karan Johar’s multistarrer ‘Kalank’
In the recent past, Bollywood has had bohemian sex-centric movies like ‘Shubha Mangal Saavadhan’ and ‘Vicky Donor’, but with a male protagonist. “Well, I am proud to be the first actress to do a Hindi film tackling a bold touchy subject like ‘‘Khandaani Shafakhana’, signs off the exuberant ‘Ittefaq’ actress. Incidentally, this movie has the sensuous Diana Penty gyrating with rapper Badshah to a reprised-redux of the hit retro-song ‘Shehar Ki Ladki’.
